Guests at Poppy’s Place often share how soothing it is to explore the beautiful areas around Argyll and Lochaber during their stay at Poppy’s Place, finding solace in the beauty and tranquillity of the surroundings.

Many guests recommend visiting historic Inveraray Castle or taking a scenic drive through the majestic Glencoe, where dramatic landscapes offer a peaceful space for reflection. The enchanting Castle Stalker, perched on its tidal islet, and the serene crossings at the Corran Ferry provide moments of quiet connection to nature.

Families have also found comfort in the warm hospitality and hearty meals at The George Hotel in Inveraray or savouring fresh seafood at The Pierhouse Hotel in Port Appin.

Tralee Beach

A few minute’s walk from Poppy’s Place and you will find yourself on Tralee Beach. Head over in the wee sma’ hours and you may be treated to our resident otters munching breakfast on the rocks! Or take your picnic and enjoy a dip in the bay.

Tralee Fish & Chips

This award winning chippie, open seasonally, is right on the doorstep of Poppy’s Place and is open Wednesday to Saturday 4.30pm until 8.30pm. All food is freshly cooked to order and can be pre-ordered by phone or walk up and wait for your order.


Ben Lora Cafe & Bookshop

Ben Lora Cafe and Bookshop sits in the heart of the village. From April to October it is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm and serves a breakfast and lunch menu.

Beinn Lora

Starting off beside Lewis’s Garage in the heart of the village, a walk up Beinn Lora on a clear day will give you panoramic views over the coast and islands, and back down Loch Etive to the Ben Cruachan range, These trails are also very popular with local hill runners looking for a strenuous workout.


Lady Margaret’s Tower

Lady Margaret's Tower on Lochnell Estate can be reached via a good wee trek past the walled garden at Lochnell Castle.

The views on both sides of the peninsula are fabulous. The building which was erected in 1754, likely as a way to give work to local men who found life hard after the 1745 Jacobite rising and subsequent Culloden battle.

Sutherland’s Grove

Located in the neighbouring village to the north, Barcaldine, this forest is named after Sir John Donald Sutherland, Assistant Commissioner for Scotland 1919-34 and Commissioner 1934-42. Some of the Douglas firs reach 50m in height, the oldest of which was planted in 1870. There are trails to suit all fitness levels.
